Dental fear

Fear of the dentist is learned, usually in childhood: after a bad experience, or from hearing about it at home. And what is learned can also be unlearned.

It's hard to do alone. It happens in the chair, next to someone who guides you, calmly and one step at a time.

Four steps, one at a time, to unlearn fear: looking together at what you feel, releasing tension, telling normal sensations apart, and conscious sedation if needed.1234Together we lookat what you feelYou learn to relaxyour musclesYou tell apart pressureor pushing from whatshould be flaggedIf needed, conscious sedationIn the chair, calmly, one step at a time

What we do

  • An explanation before every step.
  • A step-by-step path, adapted to you.
  • When needed, conscious sedation with nitrous oxide and oxygen: you breathe through a small mask on your nose, stay awake and can answer, and the effect wears off a few seconds after it comes off.
  • For children: trust before the chair, with play too.

How it works

  1. Together we look at what you feel when you're afraid.
  2. You learn to release the tension in your muscles.
  3. You learn to tell normal sensations, like pressure or pushing, from the ones to flag.
  4. Treatment follows, at the pace you need.

Who looks after you

FR
Dr Francesco Di Gioia
Clinical director

Francesco has written a series of articles on dental fear and how to unlearn it.

What it costs

It depends on what you need, and you know before we start: after the visit you get a written estimate, item by item. If there's more than one option, you get them all, each with its cost.
